Riverview Version 3.0 - 442.550 & D-Star 444.425

Our Hillsborough County site. This site is in Riverview, in the "farm" of broadcast tower sites just off I-75. The tower is owned by American Tower, and is the home for countless FM and TV stations. The site is 75ft above mean sea level. The tower to the top of the antennas on the candelabra is 1568ft above ground level (1643ft above mean sean level). Our antenna systems on this tower are at 805ft above ground level (880ft above mean sea level). This site does have it's challenges in manpower... only two members of the board of directors are fully certified in tower climbing and OSHA RF safety training... both requirements to work at this site. We do greatly appreciate American Tower giving us the opportunity to utilize this site and we also would like to thank Ion Networks for letting us power our gear off their 350kW diesel generator. This site is also the home of the NI4CE B D-Star digital voice repeater.

Watch the first step....

Watch the first step....

The elevator that goes up the tower is about the size of a phone booth. When you get to your destination, you have a "small" step to climb over to reach the platform.

NI4CE-11 Weather Station

NI4CE-11 Weather Station

This weather station is at 50ft on the icebridge. The icebridge at this site is a huge superstructure that's purpose is to prevent falling debree (or ice up north) from damaging the feed lines leaving the building on their way to the base of the tower.

This photo shows the back of the power supply. The 26ah battery to the left on the bottom is to hold the system up while the generator starts. The box on the right is the 24v power supply for the cabinet environmental controls.

Bringing it all in the cabinet...

Bringing it all in the cabinet...

When you are on a tower such as this one, you have to do quality work matching what the commercial guys will do. This just shows the detail in just getting coax into the cabinet. For size reference - the coax is 1/2" hardline - the leg of the tower

This is the lower 70cm UHF antenna. This is our transmit antenna for UHF. A TX/RX combiner system allows us to run the 442.550 analog and 442.425 D-Star digital voice repeaters on the same set of antennas.
